Woodturnings by Craig BireleyThe maker
Craig Bireley at the lathe

Statement

Every piece starts as a local log — boxelder, maple, walnut, cherry — and is shaped one decision at a time around what the wood already wants to be: the figure, the void, the live edge. The aim isn’t a form forced onto the grain, but a balanced one that stays honest to the tree it came from. Each bowl is one-of-one, finished food-safe, and made to be handled.

The practice

For more than twelve years Craig has worked close to the source — green wood, rough-turned, dried, and refined — letting burl, spalting, and live edges lead. The result is quiet, deliberate work where the decisions show up in the form, not in flash. Pieces ship insured nationwide; in-person viewing is available by appointment.

Where the work shows

An active maker: Craig shows the work in person across the region through the year. Lots of small shows, handled and compared up close — the best way to find the right piece.
